East Stroudsburg University started back this week, and yesterday was my 1st day of actual class. I headed down early to get books, and do a few things. I found myself with some free time and opted to use the Rec Center. I like an eliptical trainer and seldom have a chance to use one. An eliptical is "No Impact" because your feet never come off the equiptment. A bike is also "No Impact." Walking is "Low Impact" and running is "High Impact." The higher the impact level, the harder it is on your joints. There were a lot of people using the Rec Center when I was there but I am not easily intimitated. It is important to remember that you work out for yourself, not for others (well sometimes for others ALSO). You can't worry about how you look in comparison to everyone else around you. Do what you think you should be doing, or do what what you enjoy doing. The important thing is TO DO....

Snowy Day
Its winter here already. Well maybe it is usually snowy long before now, but I'm not a winter person, so in my opinion it could have held off a few more months, till spring anyway. I worked out indoors yesterday while it was snowing, but felt the need to hit the pavement today. The temperature was close to 30 or so, so I decided to go to NayAug park. I hadn't run there in a month or so and wasn't sure how they took care of the roads, but thought that it was worth a trip. The roads weren't too bad, but there were a few slick spots. On my 1st lap around I encountered a few people walking dogs, one other runner and a "speed walker" that was probably going faster than I was, though luckily in the opposite direction. When I was on my last lap I had the roads to myself. However, there were a few families sledding . All in all, it was a nice run.

Chill in the air
Yesterday the temperture was in the teens with a 12 MPH wind, today it was colder with a little less wind. I ran both days. I did not overly enjoy either run. After a mile or so it wasn't too bad, but I never like running in the cold wind. By the time I got back home after running for 3 or 4 miles in, I had a pretty good sweat going and my knee was fairly well loosened up. I did do a walk to cool down and was happy to get back indoors. Then a quick stretch and very welcoming hot shower. I did get a little heated up over the fact that as I passed Sharons Diner (on Washington Ave.) where the cops eat, the one that is owned by a relative of a fireman, two cops went by and the fact that someone was parked on the sidewalk, making it impossible to walk, let alone use a wheelchair, the cops did not even notice. I am pretty much pro-cop, but if they refuse to do their job, refuse to create revenue, then they deserve to lose their jobs. I'm not saying it's corruption. Maybe it is just being inept or lazy. But it definitly one of those three things. In the meantime no handicapped person could use the sidewalk. No child could walk. No woman could push a stroller.

January run
A cold day for a run. Well, relatively speaking. Not bad for a January, but cooler than it has been. During winter runs (even mild winters) I am always a bit chiiled at the outset, my knee being tight, then as I warm up, it begins to loosen up, and by the time I am done I have a fair sweat going.
The key is to keep moving. To keep doing something everyday, or atleast most days. You eat everyday, you lay around everyday, in my mind, you should exercise everyday (or atleast most days). Do something productive, move in some way that works your muscles and joints.

cold and windy
It was warmer today than it had been yesterday, but it was still pretty cold out. There was a head wind that smacked me in the face for about 1/2 of the 4 miles that I forced myself through today. The weather man said a high in the 30's, but you know how they lie. I could have ridden my bike today, but I wimped out and did that yesterday. So, sometimes you just gotta tell yourself: "nothing to it, but to do it..." Even if you don't actually beleive that, you just have to lace up your shoes, pull down your hat, and move.
