Out for fun

The weather was great again today. Low 60's, not too windy, the sun on my face.... nice. I went to Nay Aug Park. I figured there would be a crowd there, and there was, but I was happy to find one little playground empty. Once a week or so, if no one is around, I run through the park a little. I am planning on doing a "Warrior Dash" with Denise et al. in June. Its a 4 miler with 10 or so obstacles scattered throughout. There will be walls to climb over,,,, water to wade through, logs to crawl over and under, that sort of thing. I know I can run the 4 miles, I do that a few times a week, and I know I can get through the course. What I am a little concerned about the ease that I can get through the course. I know it won't kill me, and I know I won't quit until its over, but it will call on me to use muscles that I do not normally use. So, when no one is around the playground, I climb over walls or fences, crawl through tubes and up slides, use the hanging rings, and do my best to use those muscles that are too often ignored.

Lets Play

Its a great day to get outside and get some Vitamin D. Vitamin D is good for many things. Studies have shown that it is needed for matabolism regulation, cancer reduction and possibly even as a Multiple Sclerosis inhibitor, plus many other things. You can take a multi vitamin to help ensure that you get your fair share (I do), but one good source of vitamin D is the sun. Just drag your heiner out and play. Run, walk, take the kids or dog for a walk. Just drag your heiner out and catch a few rays. You'll feel better and you will be better. I don't know of anyone who could not stand to be a little better.

60 and "FAB"

Its a nice day. Not too much wind, about 60 degrees or so. So up to Nay Aug Park I went. I ws there the other day for a snow squal and a 25 MPH wind that  came out of nowhere. Today was much nicer. I've been pretty busy lately with grad school. Not really too busy to work out ( I have been hitting the bike or running), just haven't really found the time or inclination to blog as much as I had been. Today I did about a mile to warm up, then did the circuit that I like to do there. Running around a circle there. Its about 100 yards in diameter with picnic tables scattered about. I do pushups on one. Do the circle, then do situps. Run the circle, then do dips. Run the circle then do steps ups with one leg leading then with the other leg leading. Run the circle then do jumping jacks. That's one set. I did 2 sets than did about 1 mile or so to cool down. I haven't done that in a few months. It felt good in the sun but the step ups always kill my left knee.  I was happy to see quite a few others out and about at the park. Its a good day to start (or continue) being a little bit fitter.

Be fit, start TODAY

Good Running Weather

Great running weather. February 18th, and almost 50 degrees. The sun was out and I wanted to get my run in early. Noon had about the high for the day. Then it cooled off and the snow started again, bringing a nasty cold rain with it. It will be close to 50 again by the end of the week. I enjoyed the sunshine for a while though. I did about 5 miles today, and it felt pretty good. I have been researching a couple of races to do this year. I basically look for something different or atleast in a different place for me. I saw a "Spartan Race" that is pretty close to me in July, and a "Tough Mudder." Both look pretty interesting. We'll have to see how this year plays out.

winter wanderland

It snowed a little last night, maybe an inch or so. It was in the 30's and threatening to cool down some more in the next few days. I decided to run before the weather got too nasty. I am after all a bit fragile when it comes to cold and wind. I did about 2 1/2 or 3 miles at an easy pace. I found a race to think about. Its part of the Tough Mudder series. It looks fun and a bit hard core. The closest one around here is at the end of April. We'll just have to see how things go. In the mean time, we'll just keep on keepin on.

Winter fun

We went to Lewisburg today. It is where Bucknell University is. They were having a Winterfest, and we thought it would be a nice day trip. Also, there was  a Polar Plunge into the Susquehanna River and I wanted to do one, so it seemed like a good way to spend the day. The weather was in the 30's so it was a manageable plunge. Not too "polarbearish." They had some ice sculptures throughout town and Joann and I found a seat on an ice throne. Of course we found somewhere to grab a burger and a beer to round out the trip. It is just the kind of guy I am.

50 and fit

It is February 1st and the temperature is in the low 50's. Excellent running weather for this time of year (or really any time of year). I went to Nay Aug Park and did a few laps. I ran on the trails because usually they are covered with snow at this time of year. There were a lot of people there. Some were walking, a few were running and I must have seen about 10 dogs walking their owners. It was nice to see so many active people. There is no reason that some of those that were walking today, can't be walking or running 6 monthes from now. We'll have to see how many stick it out.
